Year 3 learners start with basic greetings, colours, numbers, family, fruits, hobbies, as well as the components of Chinese phonetic system – pinyin and Chinese characters.
For the older students from Year 4 to Year 6 a range of topics are covered to enable students to communicate about their world: sports, food and drinks, daily routine, school life, home and the community/neighbourhood as well as important social events both in China and Australia.
In addition to language instructions, the program incorporates a variety of activities across all levels, including stories, songs, handcrafts and cooking. Chinese cultural incursions are organised each year to provide students with the opportunity to experience Chinese culture, such as Chinese New Year Lion Dance incursion, Chinese instrument Guzheng workshop, Chinese calligraphy workshop, and Chinese lanterns painting, etc.
