Mandarin is taught from Year Three to Year Six. The focal points of the classes is the four micro-skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing, as well as intercultural awareness. The Chinese Programme delivered at Noranda Primary School allows children to develop a perspective for Chinese language as well as Chinese culture and helps them explore ways Chinese language is used in Chinese social and cultural contexts.
The learning is inquiry based, meaning it takes into account and capitalises on the children’s own questions, ideas and interests so that students are actively involved in their learning. In addition, the Chinese Programme provides authentic learning opportunities so children can investigate real life topics, develop higher order thinking skills, and express their learning in multidisciplinary ways.
